About me
I started working with children when I was 13, and have been in professional child care for the majority of my 20's. I worked as a camp counselor and full-time nanny for ages from newborn through middle school. I have been an assistant teacher and a private para to children with emotional/behavioral disorders at the Harbor School in Maryland. I found that experience at Harbor to be incredibly insightful and it really helped me develop tolerance and understanding, and most importantly it helped develop my ability to think on my feet! It also made me more interested in the brain and its development, which in hindsight is why I chose Psychology for my first degree.
I prefer to work in someone’s home rather than work in a childcare facility. As someone who had a babysitter growing up, I know the importance of "it takes a village" and finding someone that can integrate into your whole family is important. Working in the family home creates a stronger bond with the child/children and it only solidifies the relationship if the whole family is also creating that connection.
I love music and play music - let's have jam sessions with the kids or teach them the guitar, ukulele, or banjo! Love adventures around the city to museums or parks. I'm good at arts and crafts and finding ways to create art out of recycled material, surprisingly enough.
I have professional child care experience with...
- Infants
- Toddlers
- Preschoolers
- School-aged (K-5)
In 5 years, I hope to be...
Having babies of my own!
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I love the outdoors, and grew up on my dads dairy farm on the weekends, horseback riding and planting seeds. I am a sucker for a good arts and crafts project. Working on one now, turning old boxes into a bookcase with paper mache and paster! It's a mess, but it's coming together beautifully. Would love to cook and bake with your kids! I I have skateboarded most of my life, and would love to teach your kids if they are interested - its not just great physical exercise, its great for confidence building!
