About me

I have been working with children for seven years, however I have been providing childcare since I was in elementary school and going to daycare; I would always help out in the rooms with younger groups of children whenever I could. Throughout my time working with children, I have enjoyed helping them learn through experience so the child could explore their own learning strategies. I believe that knowledge gained upon the child’s own discovery is much more valuable than if I were to tell them exactly what to do. Growing up, I was a very creative child and I was constantly doing things outside the box. When my own exploratory methods were not in line with what the teacher wanted me to do, I would get frustrated and not fully understand the predetermined way I was expected to learn. Experiencing this, I would not want another child to experience the same thing, so I like to foster creativity and the creativity I experienced as a child has followed me into my adult life.

As well as being an Elementary Education Major in college, I was a Visual Arts major. Art is my passion and my hobby, and I enjoy introducing various art media to children so that they can explore their own creativity and learn that there are limitless possibilities to what they can create.
I have worked with children from age 3 to 13 in camp and elementary after-school programs, as well as student teaching in a 3rd grade classroom. In the after-school programs, I helped children of all elementary grades complete their homework successfully as well as engage them in group games and crafts. I have worked for seven years in a camp for children ages 4-5 as a counselor, assistant director, and director. During camp, I am responsible for four counselors, 30 children, and navigating them safely throughout their entire camp day as we go from activity to activity.

In five years I hope to still be living in New York City and teaching in an elementary school.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love sharing various art media with children. From water color paint to simple printmaking processes, children can learn a lot from the different art processes without realizing they are learning! I also have been a camp counselor for seven years, so I am well versed in all of the traditional camp crafts, from friendship bracelets to mod podge. I also enjoy going to museums and galleries in the city, and I would love taking children to see art from different time periods and discussing what they think about the art!
