About me

I hold a Bachelors of Science in early childhood education. I have been working with children as a teacher for six years. I taught first grade for two years, and kindergarten for four years in a self-contained classroom. I love children, and all of the wonderful things that they say and do. I feel that it is my calling to educate and foster young minds. Part of being an educator in an early childhood setting is having an in depth understanding of the developmental stages of children beginning with birth. I believe this understanding is the foundation of assisting children to be the best they can be, and help fill gaps where applicable.

While I was in Dallas I was able to build strong relationships with students and families within the school setting. I even developed a strong bond with a family that had a child in second grade. I ended up staying overnight to watch the second grader, and their two other siblings periodically throughout the year. During this time I would take care of laundry, cooking, carpool, and even helped potty train their brand new puppy. I also tutored the second grader once a week after school to assist in reading and writing skills. I loved spending time with this family, and even looked forward to the overnight stays!

In five years I hope to be living with my husband here in New York, and enjoying all that this wonderful city has to offer!

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

In such a fast paced world, I find that teaching simple yoga poses, and encouraging quiet time has a positive impact on our little ones. I noticed that they began to sit still for longer periods of time, and had more self awareness through these practices. I also love hands on activities and crafts! My students always enjoyed writing their letters in shaving cream or yogurt. We also loved taking iPads outside to take pictures of things that looked like letters, numbers, or particular shapes. In reading it is fun to bring stories alive by acting them out, or maybe even having a puppet show. I truly enjoy igniting a love of learning through multiple modalities!
