About me

I am an artist and writer. Before moving to New York many years ago, I was in graduate school in London. I have worked with children from birth to age 10. Having worked at the NY Kids Club as a dance and gymnastics coach, I understand the importance allowing the body to move and grow, so beginning the moment a child can have "tummy time", I help them learn to develop their strength with appropriate exercises. I help kids explore their world and think creatively about life, their surroundings and what it means to be a kid in this really cool city.

My approach to childcare is very simple: I am not their mother nor do I attempt to be. My aim is to exist within the lives of the children I work with as a best friend, a confidante and a mentor. I try to relate to them on their level and validate their experiences and opinions. My background in art and performing arts allows me bring to the table a sort of artistic enrichment aspect to my work. Anything can be an lesson. I once made a model of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre with a little girl with magna tiles after reading the Magic Treehouse book about Shakespeare… This was her idea. I encourage kids to think abstractly, try new things, and explore puzzles right side up and upside down. Cleanup is first and foremost; we never make a mess that we don't clean up together. I want the children I work with to develop their imaginations alongside a disciplined attitude. It is so essential in my opinion to their success as adults. I was lucky to have a nanny who did this and I credit her for a good deal of my ethics and tenacity in my work.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Art - any and all. I love taking older children to museums with their sketchbooks and a pencil. Imaginative play/theatre games Cooking - my favorite is "green dinner for St. Patrick's Day"! Reading - I do audio books and voiceovers so I do enjoy reading to children and as they memorize the books (as always happens) encouraging them to have "roles" too. It is a lot of fun for us both!
