About me

I am currently a 6th grade writing teacher at a charter school in Brooklyn, NY. I am a certified NYS teacher in grades 7-12. am also currently in graduate school getting my masters in Elementary Education and Special Education. I have wanted to be a teacher my whole life and feel so excited that I am finally reaching my goal. Before I began teaching I was a nanny for 2 1/2 years with an amazing family. I began watching their daughter when she was 2 years old and it has been so amazing to watch her grow and learn. Children are one of the greatest gifts in the world and the opportunity to be a part of a child's life is such an incredible honor to me.

As someone who has studied the development stages of children and adolescents I really believe in the education and nurturing of the whole child - mind, body, and soul. One thing I have done with my last family's daughter is work with her to explain how she is feeling and come up with a plan for how we can make a situation better. She is now five years old and when we get to hand out she tells me a plan she has come up with before she even gets frustrated! Small things like that are the most rewarding part of nannying for me. I believe in setting boundaries but also being patient and remembering that children are people just life anyone else and are entitled to feel the full spectrum of emotion.

Outside of teaching, music is one of my greatest passions. I taught myself how to play guitar in middle school and began writing songs not too long after. The family I used to nanny for just told me their daughter has begun taking guitar lessons, and it feels so amazing to have influenced her in that way! I also love to read, which as an English major, I have spent a lot of time doing. Exploring and being outside is another great love of mine, especially in a place like New York City where there is so much to see!

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Music and literacy skills. I think that literacy is one of the most important thing for children to learn and I have found that music is a great and fun way to promote those skills.
