About me
Since I have many brothers and sisters, coming from a family of five, my first babysitting experiences were around the house. I was the oldest boy, and always eager to help out. That's why my parents would ask me to babysit since I was around ten. In addition to caring for my siblings, feeding, and getting them to bed, I also loved to play games with them and use our imaginations all together. I'm a big fan of science fiction, fantasy and storytelling of all kinds, and we would often play out elaborate imaginative situations. I was happy to use my imagination alone, but even happier when I was introducing my younger siblings to the worlds of adventure.
Since that time I have worked with kids in many environments, particularly in theater. I have performed in numerous plays for children. I have also taught them, in workshops and after school programs. I have experience with children from kindergarten age through high school. My top priority has always been to empower them, and help them be creative. My philosophy with children as a teacher and a caretaker is that there is no such thing as "I can't do that." Often children say they can't draw, or act, or sing, or write, or do their homework well. I believe strongly that anyone can do anything in their own way, and only practice leads to technique. Therefore one of my favorite feelings is to introduce a child to their own talent, skill, or special way of creating.
I am an actor, writer, avid reader and all-around storyteller. I am also an avid student and scholar of William Shakespeare. I enjoy keeping children safe, excited and on track, and have no trouble with discipline. However, my favorite thing is to inspire. The best of our babysitters inspired me as a young boy, to be kind, creative and think critically. I would love to do the same.
I have professional child care experience with...
- Preschoolers
- School-aged (K-5)
- Preteen
- Teenagers
In 5 years, I hope to be...
In 5 years I would love to have more professional acting work: as noted above, I am in love with Shakespeare, his works and the classical theater. It's a very specialized career path, but I dream of being in the top tier of those who bring Shakespeare's plays to life in this country.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
Storytelling, reading, writing and drawing. I love to teach simple theater games, like zip zap zop and zoom-bafigliano. But I am also happiest reading a story aloud, or taking children outside to the park, zoo or museum.
