About me

An Early Childhood Educator, I am also an aunt of 4 and a slew of cousins. During my time in high school and college, I babysat my younger cousins. I grew up in a family of educators, so teaching came very natural to me. Prior to teaching, I dreamed of becoming a pediatrician. I remember being in the hospital as a child and admiring the care that was given to me by my own pediatrician. I imagined myself working in the hospital and caring for children the same way I was cared for.

As an educator, I have taught children between the ages of 2 and 5 years old. What I love about teaching is being able to see how young minds work. I look forward listening to my students' experiences as they relate to the theme being studied. I like to observe children to see how they maneuver through their environment and try to understand their thought process as they interact with other children and manipulate objects.

Sharing ideas with fellow educators and parents is very important as an educator. Building relationships with parents is crucial to educating children because it opens the door to communication and understanding the child's behavior and different approaches that can be used to foster their development.

I grew up with two siblings, the eldest being deaf, and I learned American Sign Language to communicate with her. Once I became an educator and worked with students who had language barriers , I realized the importance of using ASL in the classroom. My passion for ASL emerged and I returned to the classroom to brush up on my skills. What I love about ASL is the beauty it evokes when being used. It's more than just your hands--it's your facial expression and spatial awareness. When I am teaching ASL, my students' eyes light up. They all want to form the letters and produce words. This makes me very happy.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to teach children how to develop their gross motor skills (jumping rope, throwing and catching a ball etc.). I also love to teach American Sign Language. This is very important for infants and toddlers because it allows them to communicate their needs without becoming frustrated. It also develops their fine motor skills. I also like to teach songs and basic music theory. Collage and playdough are other activities that I enjoy teaching.
