About me

I grew up babysitting for neighbors and relatives but it wasn’t until I got into college that I really got into the nannying and babysitting world. I have gotten the opportunity to work with many great families that have impacted me in ways that I hope I have also impacted them. Most recently I babysat 2 boys, ages 9 and 13. I worked with this family for the past 3 years and really connected with the boys. One of the boys having a behavior problem made it difficult at times for me to want to stay in the position but I realized how far he had come because of the work that I was doing with him. Having this experience challenged me but also made me realize how much I enjoy working with kids and making an impact on them. Not only have I been a childcare provider but I also have coached basketball at a summer camp for a consecutive 7 years as well as being a lifeguard in a variety of locations. I really enjoy working with kids because I am able to help create a fun structured environment for them to live in!

When I went to college I thought that I was going to end up going to med school. I took all the classes, studied for the MCAT and it wasn't until the summer going into my senior year of college that I realized that being a doctor wasn't for me. I went on to grad school where I got a degree in environmental science, and while I was there I got the experience of going into classrooms (of all ages) and teaching them about the ocean and all the animals that we see in the Long Island Sound. It was here where I realized that I was meant to be a teacher. I recently started the Urban Teaching Residency program through Hunter College to become a high school chemistry teacher. I felt this opportunity provided me with the necessary tools to make an impact on various children’s lives from different aspects of the world. I think that providing a loving and fun environment can help kids to flourish into the people they are meant to be. Teaching is a passion of mine and I have done it in a variety of ways.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Settled into a teaching position at a High School in New York City. I would like to find someone that I would be able to settle down and start a family with as well. As I start to get older I realize how important a family is to me and that it is something that I really look forward to in the future.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I have coached basketball in previous years and really enjoy teaching the sport! I also really enjoy teaching and swimming with kids. I grew up around the water and so I consider myself a fish in the summer. Not only do I enjoy sports and outdoor activities but I also am a large fan of arts and crafts. I grew up learning how to sew, draw, make friendship bracelets and many more artsy activities. I think this is one thing that children can do an be their own type of creative. I'm opening to trying new activities and sports that I am not used to as well.
