About me

As a neuroscience student one thing that has consistently fascinated me was the capacity for learning in young children and the swiftness with which they develop and personalities begin to take shape. As a babysitter I have always kept this in mind, taking great care to find and create opportunities and projects that were interesting and engaging for the kids I was working with. I have experience as an after school and weekend babysitter and summer nanny for families with multiple children ranging in age from infant to 14 years. It is important for me to get to know each one of the kids I care for to gain an understanding of their interests and how they interact with one another. As an after-school sitter I have been responsible for preparing snacks fit for unique dietary needs, helping kids complete their homework, and keeping them focused while practicing instruments and completing chores.

For all kids I have looked after, I supplement scheduled activities and school with fun and engaging projects and activities. I create these based on the interests of the kids that I might have pulled out of a conversation we had, or they may be related to something they were learning in school. My experience with younger children has given me expertise in “playing pretend,” sticker scenes, and imaginative games. With older kids I let them drive our time together and have learned a lot from them, from 3D graphic design, gardening, inventions, and one of my now favorite games freeze dance. In communicating with parents I am able to get a sense of house expectations, upholding bedtimes, tv time, dietary restrictions, communication expectations (certain words we don’t use, politeness etc.) and stick to these. In my time as a caregiver I have also prepared lunches and dinner on a daily basis, as well as completing household cleaning and driving to and from activities. I pride myself on my creativity and openness to learn and believe these skills have grown will my childcare experience. Getting to know each of the kids I have cared for has always brought something positive to my life and I always strive to do the same for them.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am constantly finding the overlap between fun and a learning opportunity. The skills and activities I love to teach and share with children often stem from their interests. In the past I have had a lot of fun with kids gardening, crafting, doing outdoor activities, science and cooking and I have found that I can modify different projects in these areas for different interests and skill levels.
