About me
Working as a babysitter was the first job I had when I was a teenager, and has continued to be a job I seek out ever since. As a double major in Psychology and Child Studies, and a current Masters in Social Work student, I have spent my time in the classroom learning about human development and how the mind works. I have learned how to understand others and what methods work when it comes to helping children gain mastery throughout their development. My textbook experiences have been supplemented with my hands-on experience with children. I have worked with infants through pre-teens in my babysitting work, and as a camp counselor I worked with teenagers as well.
When I was younger, and was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, or what I wanted to do for a career, I always responded that I wanted to be a mother. Taking care of children has always been what I enjoyed doing and what I imagined myself doing in life. As I went through college and discovered my interest in psychiatric therapy, I decided to include becoming a Clinical Social Worker into my career goals, but my passion for working with children remained.
Childhood is such an important time in life and provides a foundation for the child's whole future. I love being able to be a part of building this foundation for children and helping to send them down the right path. Children are sponges absorbing all that is happening around them, and I want to be a part of making sure their experiences are loving, fun, educational, and supportive.
I have professional child care experience with...
- Infants
- Toddlers
- Preschoolers
- School-aged (K-5)
- Preteen
- Teenagers
In 5 years, I hope to be...
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker working as a therapist with adolescent girls. I am not settled on exactly what my job will be, but my second year internship placement is going to be working at New York State Psychiatric Institute's eating disorder inpatient unit. If I enjoy this placement as much as I anticipate, then I hope in five years to be working with adolescent girls struggling with eating disorders.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I love reading books with children, spending time outdoors, working on crafts, baking, playing imaginative games, and incorporating learning into our play such as working counting into a game with young children.
