About me

Hello! My name is Tabatha and I have been a childcare provider for the past eight years. Throughout this time, I have worked as a teacher assistant for special needs preschoolers, as well as after-school, early morning, and date-night babysitter.

I am currently a graduate student at Lehman College, pursuing my MA in Speech-Language Pathology, and I would love for my career focus to be working with children. Most of my child care positions have been with children ranging from ages 3-13, and it is so rewarding to watch children of this age group grow, learn, and express themselves through creativity and imaginative play!

My current position is as an after-school babysitter for a family with three boys, now ages 7, 10, and 13. My duties include: after-school pick-up, helping with homework and projects, transportation to activities and apartment, meal prep, assisting with bed and bath routines, and adhering to a preset behavior plan. I also keep parents updated on any and all issues concerning school, homework, behavior, therapy, and day-to-day activities. I have grown close to this family, and cultivating individual relationships with each child has been extremely rewarding and fun.

I also have extensive experience with morning drop-off positions, and I have worked with three families in this capacity. One family had two children, ages 3 and 1, and my main responsibilities were to prepare breakfast and lunch for the children, get them dressed, brush their teeth, and ensure they were completely ready for school. I would then take the eldest son (who happened to be on the autism spectrum) to school via subway. I have also worked in this capacity for a family with twins and multiples, where I have transported both children to separate schools, and have taken both subways and buses in these roles.

Prior to babysitting, I was a teacher assistant at a special needs preschool. I feel this experience taught me a multitude of techniques for working with children who need extra care or help which I utilize throughout my babysitting experiences. For example, methods like sticker charts, rewards, and therapeutic play have all helped me to stay aware of a child’s needs while ensuring they are happy and learning structure, and still feeling safe and secure. I feel this unique experience has made me simultaneously able to discipline while still forming a close rapport with children. I am very open and honest, and love to keep in contact with parents through pictures, updates, and talks. Further, I am able to multi-task and keep many activities running smoothly.

I have experience working with children on the autism spectrum, ADHD, with speech delays, and with occupational needs, and I feel that my experience helps me reinforce those skills in the children I am caring for. All of this experience, I feel, makes me well rounded and capable of not only caring for children, but ensuring they are learning and enjoying themselves while in my care. I'd love to meet with you to see if I would be a great fit for your family's needs!
