About me

I am a compassionate, caring, and patient person who loves spending time with children! I first began babysitting for my neighbors in Virginia Beach when I was 11 years old. I quickly became the “neighborhood babysitter” and I worked for almost every family in my neighborhood until I left for college at 18 – several of the babies that I used to care for are in middle and high school now! I consider the families that I work with as part of my own family, and I usually keep in touch with kids years after I’ve stopped sitting for them. During my time working with children, I have had the opportunities to work as a babysitter, a teacher (both language and piano!), and a camp counselor. I have worked with children of a wide variety of ages - from 6 months to 12 years old - and I love helping them learn new things and exposing them to new activities. I am a big advocate of helping children grow and learn through play, and I love to "get into their world" and have fun with them. I also love getting out of the house and taking children on trips to local parks and museums - especially interactive museums like the Children's Museum of Manhattan!

I am currently a full time Grad Student at the New School for Social Research pursuing my MA in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling, and I work part-time as a research assistant in the Trauma and Affective Psychophysiology Lab. My knowledge of psychology informs everything I do and has been exceedingly helpful in the world of teaching and babysitting.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love introducing children to art and music! I have played piano for 18 years and participated in school and church choirs for 9 years, so I have a lot of knowledge and passion in regards to music! I also taught private piano lessons to children for several years in high school and college. If your family has a piano, I am more than happy to introduce your children to basic music concepts. I am also passionate about art and art history and would love to engage children in arts and crafts and trips to local museums. I have taken 9 years of French classes plus a semester abroad in Paris in which all of my classes were in French and my host family only spoke French. I am also currently learning American Sign Language and have taken 3 years of classes. I love teaching what I know about language and culture!
