About me

I grew up in Wichita, Kansas as a middle child. I fell in love with storytelling and was often found reading, writing & illustrating, singing, and watching old movies. I began performing in community theater as a preteen and continued through high school and at Wichita State University where I studied theater arts and creative writing. After college I helped to run a small midwest theater company, working as a Performer, Designer, and Producer. In 2008, I made the move to NYC to attend Atlantic Acting School Conservatory. With a focus on new play development, I have collaborated in the off-Broadway theater community as an Artistic Director, Dramaturg, and Performer.

Through middle school, high school and college, I held regular positions as a date-night, weekend, and summertime sitter, caring for toddlers and elementary school-aged children. In NYC, I have worked for several families, caring for children ranging from newborn to 9 years old. This included a full-time position caring for twin boys from the age of 3 months to 3 years old. In that time, I took it upon myself to study early cognitive development and put into place a daily routine to ensure a structure of engagement through safe, fun play and exploration. For the past 5 years, I have been the nanny for two girls, now 7 years old (special needs/Global Processing Disorder) and 5 years old. Duties and fun have included school drop-off & pick-up; full-day care; meal prep; homework and supplemental learning assistance; overseeing remote school; morning and bedtime routines; outings to museums, libraries, and parks; outdoor and indoor games; imagination play; arts & crafts; story writing; lego-building; sing-alongs and dance parties.

I feel very fortunate that childcare has provided the opportunity to meet a variety of unique, lovely families and I take pride in being a positive, proactive addition to their team. As a caregiver, I am a firm believer in patience, listening, fun, and leading by example. My goal is to help raise confident, kind, empathetic humans who have a healthy foundation on how to face challenges, navigate their emotions, and find joy.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Producing new theater and performing. I would also love to become a teaching artist for an organization that brings theater arts into schools.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

-I love engaging children of all ages in art projects, and over the years I have collected a catalogue of age-appropriate art and craft projects such as rain-sticks, nature collages, sock puppets, cardboard houses/tunnels and homemade paint and play dough. I also pride myself on my problem-solving skills and creativity to help make "big ideas" a reality. -I love exploring nature and going on "adventure walks" with the children that I care for. This can involve bird watching, exploring the neighborhood/surroundings with games of 'eye spy', or collecting interesting leaves and rocks. -I believe early reading is extremely important and enjoy instilling a love for books. In my current position, I have been working with the five year old girl on her early reader skills and I have very much enjoyed assisting her with learning new sight words and working through her Brain Quest books. -Music, singing and dancing are always in the mix for all ages. -I also enjoy baking and eating healthy and have had a lot of fun engaging children in baking projects and in helping prepare their snacks and meals.
