About me

Hello! I completed my undergraduate degree at Columbia University in English and Visual Arts, and since I have spent my time in education departments at places like the Museum of the City of New York. As a babysitter, I most enjoy that I get to live kid's stories with them, and can help them recognize their own agency in their lives. In school, I focused on English and studio art, which centers questions of creativity and empathy in the forefront of my life. Therefore, as a sitter, I love actively asking questions of kids, which help them engage and develop their own perspective in the world. My experiences as an artist, surfer, yogi and musician also help me to create unique activities. For example, we'll make up and design, and craft our own board game around certain questions or interests the child has, or cook up some inventive snack when a kid wonders what different flavors taste like together, or make a cool art project or science experiment with their favorite legos or toys. I also study the body and nervous system, and so I love to meditate with children and guide them into greater emotional regulation.

I've worked as a museum educator, classroom art teacher, swim instructor, tutor, and as a science olympiad team coordinator and teacher for middle schoolers. I also especially love to cook and garden with children. Some of my favorite activities with kids I've done was recently developing theater and art work shops for Syrian refugees and German school students, where through theater and photography we asked them to creatively and empathetically engage with their position in the refugee crisis. I've learned to communicate with kids in situations where they are vulnerable and unhappy, like at swimming lessons, and turned their experiences into positive and fun ones. I've especially come to learn that simplification of challenging activities and moments into digestible bits for kids is essential, and most importantly, being goofy. As a sitter and someone who works with kids, humor and play are my most distinct traits, and I typically try to take up a role with kids where I appear as a friend.
