About me

I am a native New Yorker who has been working with children in some form or another since I was a child myself! Over the years, I have worked in countless programs to assist children from all walks of life, from infancy to young adulthood, and with children on the autism spectrum and children with learning disabilities. I believe firmly in creating opportunities for every child, and in guiding a child’s own natural creativity and curiosity to help them consider the world around them in new ways. Whether babysitting, tutoring history and writing, working as a camp counselor, leading workshops as a museum educator, guiding theater classes as a teaching artist, leading historical walking tours for kids, or working as a volunteer science and nature educator, I aim to couple my disciplined and organized eye with a keen sense of adventure and a sincere passion for exploration and education in everything I do! In addition to my work with children, I am also an actor - I am a member of both Trusty Sidekick Theater Company (a group creating original multidisciplinary work for children) and The Flea Theater (a Drama Desk Award-winning theater company). I have been lucky to have collaborated with Tony Award winners, Drama Desk Award winners, Pulitzer Prize nominees, and Academy Award nominees, and in venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. I am also an active improv comedian, singer, dancer, and ukulele-strummer! I graduated from Swarthmore College with high honors in Theater and Political Science, and from Space Camp when I was 10 with high honors in Model Rocket Launching.

When working with children, I always create a safe and structured environment that still allows plenty of room for discovery, play, and creativity to flourish. To me, children are the very best learners and explorers - they have no preconceived notions about the world around them, and are still discovering exactly who they are and how they want to make their mark. The ability to play some small role in guiding children in the direction of their own personal discoveries is both an honor and a privilege that inspires me in my own day-to-day life. I believe firmly in gaining an understanding of the unique needs of each young person I work with in order to find new ways to ignite their imagination and help instill a lasting love of learning and discovery in every child!

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Continuing to work professionally within the New York City film and theater scene, and running an after-school program designed to help introduce the arts to students of all backgrounds and together create work that celebrates difference and is accessible to all.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Fostering a love of history by making the local NYC history all around us come alive; creative writing by encouraging kids to have a journal nearby at all times and always having an endless list of creative writing prompts on hand; a passion for the arts in any form; basic improv comedy as a way to help kids think on their feet and trust their instincts; the importance of volunteering and community service; an understanding of and deep appreciation for science and nature through easy experiments that can be done at home; an ability to be both a leader and a great team player. In addition, I love taking children on trips to museums, zoos, libraries, and performances for young audiences, playing games, reading together, doing arts and crafts, and making up creative projects together!
