About me
I'm a Georgia-turned-New-York woman, with Southern manners to match!
A couple of years ago, I served in the Peace Corps in Crimea, Ukraine (or Russia, now), teaching secondary school students. I have taken that skill with me to New York and am currently teaching English as a Second Language to adults at New York Language Center in the morning, and I have been filling my afternoon until early evening hours with babysitting. I babysat for two boys (11 and 13) on the Upper East Side for the back half of the spring school semester and have babysat a seven-year-old girl occasionally in Greenpoint.
From teaching international children and adults here and abroad, and without the typical U.S. public school system, you might be able to imagine the patience and flexibility I have for different groups of people. I am two years apart older and younger, in the middle of 3 children, a brother and a sister, so I understand all of the sibling dynamics that come with that!
In my free time, I like to write songs, and spend time with friends. I'm usually the organizer of our outings and activities. I love to be the host of get-togethers as well. In my spare time, I am very interested in cooking more and more! I already can call myself quite the baker, too.
I like babysitting because kids keep me on my toes, I love families, and fresh air!
I have professional child care experience with...
- School-aged (K-5)
- Preteen
- Teenagers
- Twins
In 5 years, I hope to be...
Working full-time in production, stable, and caring for a family of my own :)
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I've found that children are pretty sure about what they like to learn, and I'm always happy to teach them whatever that is! If it takes some improvisation on my part, I'm ready. If I get my way, though, I like teaching kids cute little songs and dances. (I am an amateur guitar and ukulele player). If I'm not too shy, I might share with you my babysitting original theme diddly. Self-confidence is a big one I like to teach as kids can often feel defeated by many things very easily. Also, kids are so bright and fresh, I find that I like to learn from them as well!
