About me

A love of children runs deep in my family's history. My mother worked at a special needs camp while in college, as did I. My mother has taught a variety of ages and subjects and currently works with migrant farm worker's children. As soon as my sister and I were devouring books faster than my parents could produce them, my mother started taking us down to the local park every Saturday morning. We walked around the neighborhood ringing a bell and the kids came running. It was story hour and we broke the kids up by ages and read to them for an hour... or until the questions about the cookies were too much to put off. My mother said we were too fortunate not to share in our gifts. This has continued into today.

Working with children is just part of what our family does. While my sister is getting her PhD she teaches dance to kindergarteners. I spent my summer after conservatory working at a camp for kids with mental and behavioral disabilities. There I taught Activities of Daily Living, a class to reinforce everyday skills, from making a bed, to washing dishes, to learning about a healthy diet. And of course some fun baking projects to encourage teamwork.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Graduated with my Master's in either musical theatre performance or in children's drama therapy and working in my field in New York.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Include singing and dancing (I studied flamenco and salsa in California), baking projects (some unhealthy, some more health conscious), visiting the museums and sights, seeing the new puppet shows in Central Park, and most importantly encouraging their interests and planning activities to suit their needs (i.e. playdates to encourage good social interactions, time in the park to get a fill of Vitamin D a computer screen can't provide).
