About me

When I was in high-school interviewing for a part-time job at a daycare center, I remember taking a tour during naptime—a classroom full of young children peacefully sleeping was about the sweetest thing I’d ever seen. Flash forward to a few weeks later when naptime and training were over, and I was responsible for about ten 3-year-olds—who were still cute-- but needed much more from me than adoration! Here, I began to understand what it meant to really pay attention: to dangers, interests, personalities, moods, relationships, behaviors and more. Getting to know my classroom was essential to giving them a safe and enjoyable environment for exploration and play. And when I did, it gave me a lot of pride to see how happy they were because I understood and provided for their needs. That was the start of it all, and seven years later I have had the privilege of working with ages 1-14 in positions as a camp counselor, after-school program counselor, semi-regular sitter, and after-school nanny here in NYC.

In my personal time I enjoy life-improvement activities— like trying out different organizational techniques, perfecting healthy cooking, learning handiwork, and finding ways to show people I care. I always strive to be more well-rounded and have balance. This characteristic translates into my work with children because even more than I enjoy pursuing my own quality of life, I love to promote their well-being and enrichment.

When working with children I see my role an advocate, because I use every facility I have as an adult and professional to understand and meet their needs, help develop and reach their goals, and guide exploration of all the wonderful things life has to offer. I believe in consistent and insightful communication with parents, that a healthy relationship is a powerful tool, and in striking an equilibrium between expectations of and support for the child.

In all my life roles, I above all else want to be a peacemaker. All of my work is for the sake of learning what the world needs, and how I can give. I think this plays a special role in my work with children and families.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Using my skills, heart and moxie towards public service on a NYC nonprofit team. Particularly, I can see myself working on social issues relating to youth justice and families. I also hope 5 years will be sufficient time for me to become a proficient Spanish speaker and harmonica player!

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

One of my favorite things do to with children is to help them take their interest to the next level. I love to learn where they are at, and either use what I know, or do extra research to see what else we can do to make their activities and hobbies even more fun! In the past, I have enjoyed teaching origami, playing chess and card games, as well as taking trips to the library and park.
