About me

Originally from London, England, I decided to move to the States a few years ago and make use of my American passport (I'm a dual citizen thanks to my Philadelphia-born mum). I grew up with access to so much culture, theatre, art and diversity that New York felt like a fitting place to move to.

I've always found myself working in roles related to, or directly involving childcare. My mother worked in education and I'm fascinated by the different ways people learn - seeing so much opportunity to foster these differences in children. I believe the best teaching comes from leading by example, and I have also loved learning from the children I teach/care for. I feel that active, engaging play is an excellent means of developing social and critical thinking skills. I also encourage those I work with to ask questions and discuss their ideas. For me, the opportunity to spend time with children as they develop their own sense of self is such a privilege. I've worked formally and informally as an educator and carer/babysitter for children ages 2 - 15, relishing the differences in the age groups I've spent time with.

I'm passionate about education, nutrition, the arts, the environment and animals. I love combining my personal passions with child care and encouraging/ fostering hobbies and interests in little ones. I'm a vegetarian (but am comfortable preparing non-veggie meals) and I've recently started volunteering at an animal shelter in Manhattan. I love working with my hands (my father was an interior designer and carpenter) and consider Ikea-style furniture a giant jigsaw puzzle for adults. My roommate will often make fun of how much I enjoy board games. I personally think computer games can't compare with a good old fashioned Scrabble/ Monopoly/ Chess stand-off.

What I aim to instill in children is an awareness of the world around them, channeled by an engaged, active mind. I think imagination is so important and the prevalence of social media/ smart devices can numb this sometimes. I want those I work with/ care for to feel connected and inquisitive. We're never too old to learn something new or have a great new idea or experience.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Performing consistently as a singer/ actor while also producing my own original material. I would love to be combining this with education, too. Perhaps teaching creative workshops for children/ teenagers.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Crafts! I love crafts. Making homemade cards and creative projects. I've recently been replicating many cork-based crafts that I've seen on Pinterest. Singing, drama and writing. Performing is a great tool for developing public speaking and confidence. Writing fosters imagination and helps with language and vocabulary. I love sharing music with children. I play the ukulele (I'm only okay) and find it so much fun to bring it along to babysitting sessions.
