About me
Hi there! I am an aspiring writer/yogi/foodie who works full time in an office, but looking to pick up date night and weekend babysitting on the side. Over the course of my life, I have babysat for dozens of families—usually for occasional evenings. I have experience caring for a wide range of ages (3 months to 14 years), and in addition to babysitting I also taught yoga to elementary school students and creative writing to high school students. I’m learning to play guitar and would love to share my music skills with little ones too!
I began babysitting my neighbors kids when I was 14 years old, watching over mostly toddler school aged boys and girls. While in high school, I did numerous volunteer programs such as PS1, where I spent time as a mentor/pal to emotionally neglected children in the school PS1. This experience helped me choose my degree when I went to college, that being Applied Psychology and Human Relations at Pace University. During my time in school, I held an internship with the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem as a tutor to children ages 4-6 and as an ESL tutor for a 7-year-old student who only spoke Spanish.
During my senior year of college, I held an internship for a year with the program Upward Bound as an elective course instructor to first generation college bound high school students. I was given the opportunity to make up my own course curriculum, to which I created "Lyrical Poetry: Hip Hip and Creative Writing" fusing my love for music and writing. Through this experience, I taught high school students ages 15 -17 the importance of expressing your thoughts and voice through creative mediums like writing and spoken word.
Upon graduation, I was offered a position with the Boys and Girls Club as the Director of their Teen Program, a position I held for a year before moving into the social work field. These last few years I have worked as a Case Management Specialist and a Vocational Counselor, assisting adults in getting back on track with their lives through employment and education. These jobs have served as great learning experiences and reminders that if you implement the importance of education and creative expression from an early age, kids can grow into fully developed people, improving and moving our world forward.
