About me
I grew up between California and Peru with my parents and three siblings. Always very active and near the ocean, I was often swimming, surfing, running, or biking. I went to college at Sonoma State University where I studied anthropology and sociology. After college, I have worked with various non-profits in different capacities largely focusing on youth, families, and community connections and well-being.
As the oldest girl in my immediate and extended family, I was always involved in caring for my younger sister and cousins and began to babysit neighborhood children at age 11 (!). While in high school, I continued to babysit and also volunteered as a camp counselor with the science camps for fifth graders in our local school district.
During college, I nannied for two families- one with a newborn, providing care for his first year and supporting his growth and development. The other family had an infant and a toddler and with them, I learned how to balance the needs of two children at the same time and learned how to be creative and have fun while learning and exploring nature. After college, I worked at a community center as a preschool teacher for children ages 3 to 5 who were monolingual Spanish speakers. This experience made me realize the importance of community in the lives of children and their families and since then I have worked in other roles such as a home visitor with teen parents focusing on child development with their children, supported an after-school tutoring and arts enrichment program, worked with youth in a social-justice based teaching and learning farm.
Most recently, I have cared for a 5-year-old after school and on weekends - picking up from school, preparing and preparing snacks and meal, taking him to after-school activities and play dates, and ensuring his routines were consistent. I also cared for two other children ages 1 and 3 full time making sure they had time for learning, exploring, and socialization, often going to the parks and library as well as preparing snacks and meals and keeping up with their nap and bedtime routines.
I truly feel inspired and honored to bear witness and be a part of the lives of children and their families.
