About me
Hi, I’m Brittney. I’m an Author, Writer, and Child Care Professional. I was born and raised in Tacoma, about 45 minutes south of Seattle, WA. As an older sibling, I got lots of experience caretaking and leading. After graduating high school, I studied Public Health at the University of Washington where I learned strategies for empowering underinvested communities. After university, I created The Ava & Mae Series to empower Black & Brown children to follow their dreams. I’ve since founded Looking Lens Media, a diversity-focused media company.
With a deep passion for working with children, I bring extensive experience across various age groups and roles. I’ve held roles such as part-time babysitter, date night sitter, author, tutor, and camp counselor. Each experience has enriched my understanding of children’s unique needs and development.
I’ve worked extensively with children and sibling groups of varying ages, from infants to preteens. My responsibilities have included meal preparation (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), transportation to extracurricular activities like sports and music classes, organizing playdates, and bedtime routines. For instance, I currently care for siblings aged 18 months and 4 years, as well as another pair aged 2 and 5 years, where I manage transportation, afterschool pickups, and structured play.
I have specialized experiences with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), such as providing in-home care to a 6-year-old boy, where I managed afterschool pickups, transportation to therapy appointments, playtime, and meals. Throughout my career, I have worked with large groups, such as during a multi-family date night where I cared for six children ranging from 18 months to 11 years old.
From Brooklyn to Seattle, I have demonstrated a consistent ability to connect with children, provide nurturing care, and adapt to the needs of each family. Whether preparing meals, ensuring safe transportation, or fostering educational and social growth, I bring dedication and a genuine love for supporting children in their development. Besides that, I am a nerd for true crime, stand-up, live music and health & fitness.
