About me

I am from Huntsville, Texas. I grew up taking many dance classes and performing in community theatre. My parents introduced my siblings and I to traveling from a very young age. I have an older sister and brother, and we are very close. I received a BFA in dance from Sam Houston State University, an MFA in dance with an emphasis on Mexican and Central American immigration from George Washington University and an MA in Arts Politics from New York University. Since graduating I've been working with a few dance companies in New York which got me involved with teaching at public and private schools for dance residencies. I've been teaching since 2006, and these last few years teaching in New York have been enriching. I've taught Mexican ballet folklórico since 2018 and have enjoyed it so much. Because I've had a lot of experience teaching kids, I'm familiar with what keeps many of them entertained and what a lot of children are interested in.

I've been working in child care since 2003 and my first job was working at a daycare at my church during the services. I loved working with infants and toddlers. My last little one I cared for was one year when I started and now she's six. During the pandemic, we became very close because I was with her five days/week for nine hours/day. I began speaking Spanish to her and she quickly picked it up and was a natural speaker. My responsibilities were preparing her bottles, and food, changing diapers, and baths, and taking her on outings. I introduced her to my accordion and she loved that. When she turned two I began potty training with her, which she picked up quickly. When her mom completed her dissertation for her PhD, we surprised her in their apartment with balloons, desserts, and streamers, and my partner played "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow" on the accordion. We definitely found creative ways to stay entertained during the pandemic.

I enjoy introducing children to new activities, languages, music, and dance. My love for these activities has enhanced my life and I love sharing how they’ve impacted me. I do believe in teaching little ones how to be independent so they may have more confidence in themselves.
