About me

I am a full-time student and part-time urban farmer. I have over ten years’ experience working as a nanny in New York City. I have worked with children of all ages, newborn through high school, primarily on the Upper East Side and in Brooklyn. I have traveled domestically and internationally with families. I worked as a tutor, primarily in English and History, on numerous occasions. I am an artist working on an illustrated children’s book. As an organic gardener and chef, preparing healthy, delicious, environmentally sustainable foods is one of my passions. I love all animals, and have a special fondness for cats.

I truly love children, and think of myself as young at heart. I love to play and have fun- being with children is the best job around! I value the social, developmental skills that children develop as they begin to play – for example, learning to compromise in a game of make-believe when everyone wants to be the princess. When I play with children, I engage completely, not only because it is more fun, but because play has purpose. I love arts and crafts and will happily engage in projects; I’m a novice sewer and builder. I love gardening and anything related to the outdoors and animals (though I am quite afraid of snakes). I am reliable and responsible. I have been told my entire life that I am a very loving and nurturing person – a trait I am currently putting to use in acupuncture school.

When I am not at school or teaching, I spend most of my time growing food in, or coordinating programs for my community garden. I love documentary films, reading, and getting to know my neighbors.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Done with school! I plan to practice at Brooklyn Open Acupuncture in addition to a small, private practice. Hopefully I will be living upstate, though I may still be in Brooklyn. Wherever I end up, I hope to still have a garden full of vegetables and my cat, Chicken Bear.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am very crafty. I love to draw, paint, sculpt, build doll houses and robots out of cardboard boxes. I love to read aloud (and be read to), especially children's books. I am an excellent baker (do you love flaky pie crusts?). I am pretty good at cooking healthy food too - especially veggie-packed smoothies. I have a green thumb, I love worms, bees and my latest obsession - dragonflies!
