About me
Hello, I'm Marjorie, a dedicated and passionate childcare professional from East Harlem, New York City. I came to New York City after my parents divorced when I was about 5z. I was born in Ecuador, South America. My mother came to New York City on a work visa and we lived with our grandmother. My mother worked really hard and she was passionate about her family. I grew up in a close-knit family with two sisters who share my love for teaching and caregiving. I discovered my own passion for working with children while helping raise my sister’s kids. My mother worked as a seamstress and inspired me to learn about sewing and fashion design. I studied fashion design in high school at the High School of Fashion Industries. I enjoyed learning how to design and sew clothing for kids. I never thought I could do something more with fashion in college. I really didn’t want to do that as a career.
My journey in early childhood education began with a job at a Manhattan school working with preschool autistic children. I actually started working for them at their sleepaway camp. I worked for three weeks with preschool and school-age children. I had no experience with autism so I learned a lot during my three weeks at the camp. It was really hard but I learned to be caring and compassionate. Children with autism have difficulty communicating because they lack language so you have really pay attention to their body language. Some of it could be really difficult because they lack an understanding of daily living skills. It was a hands-on job and constant supervision. I think I did a great job and I went on to work as a teacher's assistant. I worked with great teachers and therapists and learned how to teach children with autism. This experience sparked a deep connection, and I pursued an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education at Queens Community College, followed by additional courses at City College in New York City. I eventually moved and started working at daycares with more typically developing children. I applied everything I learned in school. I really enjoyed working with infants and toddlers. I really liked seeing them grow and experience all the different developmental stages. I also enjoyed working and getting to know the families of the babies and toddlers. I often babysat for them on the weekends. There was a sense of community which I like to be a part of. I also started to work a second job as a caregiver with school-age children. My job as a caregiver is much more personal than working with many families at a daycare. As a caregiver, you are much more involved with a family. I became a valued member, I think, and taking a serious role in the children's lives. My role involves helping the family as a whole and providing support when needed. I took a serious approach to this and loved being involved. My first long-term job was taking care of two school-age children. My responsibilities included picking up the children and taking them to their apartment on the Lower East Side via subway. I also took them to their various after-school activities and appointments. I organized play dates with friends. When they were younger I helped with their sleep routine and worked longer hours. I also was responsible for their laundry, and cooking dinners and whenever they were off from school I stayed with them for all-day care. I had a few morning jobs with infants. I worked in the mornings helping first-time moms who worked from home. I really enjoyed this as well as a side job because it taught me to work closely with parents in the same environment. I really enjoy working closely with parents and adapting to their own routines and schedules. It really makes the job of taking care of an infant easier when more parents are nearby and we can communicate with the baby’s daily routine. I enjoyed learning to help a mom with changing cloth diapers which is a new skill that I mastered. I had never seen cloth diapers. I also enjoyed working for families from different religions and cultures. My after-school family is Jewish and kosher. I needed to learn to cook kosher foods for the children as well as maintain a kosher kitchen. It took a bit of practice but I found it interesting and I wanted to learn more about the Jewish traditions. I learned a lot since the children went to a private Jewish school that is focused on Jewish traditions and religion. I often escorted the children to their synagogue and learned a lot. The oldest child completed his bar mitzvah. It was such a privilege for me to witness the dedication and work that it took to see the child complete this journey.
Throughout my career, I've had the joy of working with infants, toddlers, and older children in various daycares and as an after-school caregiver. I cherish the bonds I've formed with families, built on open communication, respect, and trust. I believe that valuing each child's individuality, listening, and supporting them fosters healthy development in social, emotional, and cognitive areas.
As a dedicated childcare professional, I've always found joy in activities that bring me closer to children and help me understand their world. In my free time, I love to cook, try out new recipes, and experiment with flavors. This passion connects beautifully with my work, as I delight in preparing healthy meals and snacks for the children in my care. Watching them savor new tastes and textures is a true delight!
My love for sports and staying active also translates to my childcare approach. I believe in the importance of physical activity for young minds and bodies, and I often incorporate games, dance, and outdoor play into our daily routines.
What motivates me to pursue child-related work is the boundless potential I see in each young life. I'm driven by a desire to nurture, support, and guide children as they grow and develop. My philosophy is centered around creating a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment that fosters social, emotional, and cognitive growth.
I believe in treating each child as an individual, respecting their unique personality, needs, and quirks. By doing so, I aim to build strong, trusting relationships that allow children to feel valued, heard, and supported. This approach has been shaped by my experiences working with children of various ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
In my work, I'm committed to staying curious, adaptable, and open to new ideas and approaches. I believe in the power of play-based learning, hands-on exploration, and creative expression. By embracing these philosophies, I strive to create a childcare experience that's engaging, enriching, and tailored to each child's needs.
As dedicated childcare professional, I'm committed to continuous learning and growth in early childhood education and practices. My ultimate goal is to open my own daycare, where I can create a nurturing environment that fosters social, emotional, and cognitive development in young children.
To achieve this dream, I'm passionate about staying updated on best practices, research, and innovations in childcare. I aim to pursue further education and
certifications, such as a Development Associate (CDA) credential or a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education.
By opening my own daycare, I envision a warm and inclusive space where children feel valued, supported, and encouraged to explore their potential. I plan to build a team of like-minded professionals who share my commitment to providing high-quality care and education. My hope is that there is more funding for early childhood education and for families who struggle with paying for early childhood education.
Through my daycare, I hope to make a positive impact on my community, supporting families and empowering children to thrive in all aspects of life.
As a dedicated childcare professional, I bring a unique combination of understanding, compassion, dedication, and energy to my work with children. My ability to connect with children on a deep level, understanding their individual needs and emotions, allows me to provide personalized care and support. My compassion and empathy help me to create a safe and nurturing environment, where children feel valued, heard, and supported.
In addition to my childcare expertise, I am also passionate about teaching Spanish as a second language. I have experience creating engaging and interactive lessons that help children learn and appreciate the Spanish language and culture. My patience, creativity, and ability to adapt to different learning styles make me an effective language teacher.
My dedication to childcare and language education is unwavering, and I am committed to providing high-quality care and instruction that fosters social, emotional, cognitive, and linguistic growth.
My energy and enthusiasm are contagious, and I love to engage children in fun and interactive activities that promote learning and development. With my strengths in understanding, compassion, dedication, energy, and language teaching. I am confident in my ability to make a positive impact on the lives of children and families. I am excited to continue to teach. I am certified in infant /child CPR. I also hold a certification as a newborn care specialist. I am comfortable taking care of pets. Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss how my experience and passion can contribute to your family's needs.
Sincerely,
Marjorie
