About me

I grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida, and have lived in Carroll Gardens with my partner and our two dogs for the past three years. I’m currently a part-time student at SUNY Empire State pursuing a degree in Human Development. I've always leaned into psychology and education, and the ways that the two are so deeply intertwined. Having extensive experience with all ages between infancy and adolescence, I am still constantly thrilled to experience the myriad ways that we can support their development.

My first paying job was babysitting for children in the neighborhood, but the real foundation of my experience in intentional childcare was working at a summer camp in a local nature preserve. I spent seven years volunteering and then working with children ages 7-13, leading activities like fire building and hiking. I later worked for three years as an outdoor education facilitator, leading retreats with canoe trips, ropes courses, and environmental science for middle and high school students. My experience also includes running community programs for LGBTQ+ teenagers for one year and, most recently, working in the Infant/Toddler program at a Montessori school. I’ve been CPR and First Aid certified for over eight years, have three years of lifeguarding experience, and have completed a host of relevant trainings including EpiPen and Emergency Preparedness. I am well-read and have taken numerous college courses on child development, child psychology, attachment, and other crucial areas of childcare.

Having benefited from many role models in my own childhood, I’m motivated to offer the same support to the children in my care today. I love to encourage agency- regardless of age, all young people benefit from the opportunity to make mistakes within a set of very clear boundaries. My greatest strength is my ability to quickly build connections, engaging with all children carrying a sense of curiosity. The greatest reason I love this work is the connection we build with the people in our care. I highly emphasize emotional safety, ensuring that children feel seen, heard, and supported by fair limits and clear expectations.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Coordinating youth programs that involve art, the outdoors, or other recreation opportunities that develop leadership skills and confidence.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I like to follow the child! In my opinion, a major part of building authentic rapport with children is leaning in to what they get excited about. Maybe we can come up with something together that they've been wanting to try! The things I get most excited to share, however, are usually outdoor activities like exploring the park, birding, and identifying plants and creatures with children. I am also a pretty creative person so I enjoy process art projects and crafty endeavors like embroidery or air-dry clay. I have a wealth of games for all ages- types of tag, jokes, riddles, and more.
