About me
I'm a 25-year-old nanny, visual artist, and tenant organizer based in Brooklyn, NY. I am originally from Northeastern Massachusetts where I spent the first 18 years of my life. My parents both come from large families and immigrated to the USA from Portugal and Ecuador. I have a younger sister and two older siblings from each of my parents' previous marriages who at times lived with us.
After I graduated high school, I had plans to attend Lesley University to pursue a degree in Art Therapy in hopes of working with children, merging my passion for the arts and my beliefs regarding the future of children and their emotional growth. Unfortunately, the cost of tuition cut this dream short and I had to find another way to move toward my goals. My sister housed me in New Jersey and got me a position in the dental office she worked at while I searched for a better path. A year later, I looked for a career in childcare and then worked part-time as a babysitter in Teaneck, NJ for two families.
Since the summer of 2018, I have met with and cared for over 20 children varying between the ages of 4 months to 11 years old. Some were very short-term, part-time positions while others were between full-time, part time/occasional care which I continue to do. Most recently, I had to leave one of the families after 3 years due to the hours no longer working for me and my own personal family matters. I spent those years feeding bottles, making dinners, changing diapers, potty training, building puzzles, doing lots of crafts, spending time at the park having conversations with the two kids, and taking care of them when they were sick. I felt like I was a part of that family as I watched the children grow more curious and adventurous and hold those 3 years close to my heart.
Having grown up in a large family, witnessed and experienced generational complexities, and understanding the importance of care, working in childcare has given me the chance to make an impact in children's lives and future by using the tools I've learned along the way. I believe in the importance of not just physical care but also the emotional. I hope to continue being a part of a child's emotional growth as a nanny.

In 5 years, I hope to be...
I want to continue working with children while caring for communities and hope to grow this way by nannying and pursuing a degree relating to education and/or earth and environmental science. My dream has always been to be an educator in respective ways and learn as much as I can throughout my life. I am open to what that may turn out to look like but my greatest vision is to be able to take what I've learned about nature, the arts and being a neighbor and use that knowledge as a tool to allow the youth to explore their own creative and emotional minds.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I grew up dancing recreationally and in a musically inclined family so I definitely enjoy listening to music, strumming a few chords on guitar, singing, and dancing with the kids I nanny. Ever since I was a child I loved to explore outside, looking for plants and rocks to collect and chasing butterflies and find it very important for children to explore nature as much as possible. Cooking is another one of my passions and when the job allows, I cook for families and let children help me cook in safe and fun ways. I love to read and tell stories while being able to listen to children telling me their own. I am a huge advocate for independent and creative thinking and allow space for children to do that in their everyday lives. Though Spanish is my second language, I often speak it around kids as it comes naturally to me and some kids I've worked with have taken an interest in learning more.
