About me
I grew up in New York State, with my older brother and twin sister! I graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY as an English major, and have been exploring life, developing my artistic craft, and finding community now in Philly. I spent the last year working as a literacy tutor with 2nd and 3rd graders, a role invigorating my drive to share joy with people from all walks of life.
Throughout my life, I’ve taken on different mentor or caretaker roles working with kids. In high school, I was a teacher’s assistant for dance classes working with middle schoolers. I also babysat for a family of two daughters, ages 7 and 9, with responsibilities like picking them up from school, providing food and cleaning, and just having a good time. In college, I worked as a field trip leader for urban elementary students visiting the ecological preserve. My focus was to build a connection to the natural world before us, sometimes tucked away in built environments yet always present. This primed me for my full-time work, where every school day I ran pull-out sessions to tutor literacy for groups of two, for a total of 20 kids. This was an unforgettable experience: spending time with young minds, I learned as much from them (if not more) than they from me. Building deep relationships with my students throughout the year, reminded me of the ways I want to live: with wide eyes and open hearts.
I am a curious and creative person, channeled in my free time and when I work with kids. I am constantly looking to expand my mind and soul, and have practices to match, including my daily movement meditation to taking street dance classes, engaging artistic outlets like writing, painting, and illustration, and simply cooking a beautiful and nourishing meal. Creativity is infused in all aspects of my life and is something I love to share with kids. Learning to fuel self-expression is endlessly important to me, and I believe in guiding kids along their unique path to expression—curiosity is natural, and sometimes all it takes is a comfortable and encouraging space. My practice is rooted in respect: I want all kids to know they are respected, and seen, and deserve to take up loving space.

My favorite thing to do with my students when we have a few minutes here in there between literacy lessons (and sometimes incorporated into my lessons) is draw. I would encourage my students to free-draw with crayons on paper and would draw alongside them, practicing freedom of expression. There is no "right" way, you just keep going, following your flow, and discovering all the worlds you can make!
