About me

Hello- my name is Alison Logan :) I am a Chicago native, growing up in the suburbs with my two younger siblings and parents. As a child, I loved performing, especially acting and singing. That passion carried me through to college, where I received a BFA in Acting. Immediately upon graduating, I was hired by a touring children's theatre where I directed 75 plus children from different cities in a musical. This opportunity made me realize how satisfying working in childcare is for me. I loved teaching children the show and was able to use my degree and personality to make them feel comfortable and allow them to be themselves.
I have worked for 19 years in education and 2 years as a full-time nanny. I began my career in education at a middle school, assisting 6th and 8th grade L.D. and B.D. students. I next was a nanny for a 15-month-old girl and her 3-year-old brother. Montessori caught my eye, and I worked at a Montessori preschool where I worked for 8 years (half of which in the infant classroom, ages 6 weeks to 15 months). There, I assisted the lead with daily routines (diapering, bottle feeding, gross motor room activities) and also lent my hand to the 3-6-year classrooms in literacy small groups. After relocating to New Orleans, I continued in Montessori and early pre-K education. At my former position, I was the Lead Teacher for the Young 3's, creating lesson plans in pre-reading and math.
I love using my imagination with the children I care for and being active. It is important to me that a child I am caring for is happy, safe, and learning. I have created and led many extracurricular classes in the arts (Creative Movement, Drama, and Fairytale Ballet to name a few) and I feel allowing children to explore their interests helps them grow as human beings. My goal is for both the children and parents to feel trust and a security when I am in charge. :)

In 5 years, I hope to be...

working for a wonderful family, and more financially comfortable.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

playing outdoors, exploring museums, and using imagination to create various crafts. I really love Montessori Method, and I enjoy fostering independence within the child. I also encourage special interests (i.e. if a child loves sports, I will gladly go to the library to find age appropriate books on specific interests/play outside to hone a particular skill/etc.)
