About me

Hello, I'm Lauren! I grew up in Millburn, New Jersey (a Jersey girl at heart). I studied undergrad at Northeastern University in Boston and received a BS in Psychology. Since graduating I have been exploring different career paths and decided to pursue a career in food media. I'm a big foodie and also love cooking for myself and my friends! I have been doing freelance writing for various blogs and publications and am doing copywriting for a medical spa right in Manhattan. While I am developing my career, I want to work as a nanny because I absolutely love kids and I'm great with them!

I've been working with kids from high school years to this current post-college period. From working a summer job as a mommy and me counselor, I made a lot of contacts and worked for families with children ages 2-5 years old. After college, I have taken up more consistent nannying jobs. At my most recent job, I was a live-out aftercare nanny for a family of two parents who are working professionals with kids ages 2 and 5. Every day I picked up the 5-year-old girl from kindergarten and the 2-year-old at daycare. I would play outside with the kids, ride bikes, play imaginative games with trucks and stuffed animals, do arts and crafts, help the 2-year-old transition as he just started potty training, take the kids to the park, and have picnics when the weather was nice, took the girl to her ice skating lessons, etc. I also helped with meal preparation, light housekeeping including laundry and toy cleanup, and bath time, and tutored the girl for 30 minutes every day before dinner time. I formed a great bond with the kids and parents and it was tough to leave and say goodbye after forming a close connection with the family!

I have always had an affinity toward kids--I believe my empathetic and patient demeanor is what makes me successful at connecting with them. I was an EMT in college, so my background has always involved helping people and making them feel safe. My approach to childcare is allowing the kids to freely express themselves and explore while also instilling teaching moments when appropriate.

In terms of play, I like to have fun and encourage them to be creative. I also like to read books. I also kindly ensure that the children are well-mannered and treat their siblings, their friends, myself, and other adults with respect.
