About me

Hi! I'm Olivia. I’m the oldest of four siblings, so I got my start with childcare as soon as I was able. I started professionally nannying in college to make extra money and ended up loving it, but didn’t think of it as a career option. I graduated from North Carolina State University in 2017 with a degree in chemistry, thinking I would continue on to graduate school. When my husband lost his job unexpectedly in early 2018, we dropped everything and moved to Brooklyn for a job. Not having much experience in other fields, I became a nanny. I began to see nannying as a real career that is not only fulfilling but can offer flexibility and the ability to get outside during the day, something I had quickly realized I would really miss in a typical 9-5 job! I love watching kids grow, and I feel that this job has been a way for me to find peace and feel I am living a full life in such times of uncertainty.
My experience is with a wide range of ages, but I tend to stay with families for a long time, so things are always changing as job responsibilities go! The family I am with now I started with in 2018 with an 18-month-old girl, a 5-year-old girl, and a 9-year-old girl. My job responsibilities have obviously shifted quite a bit since then but I still take the girls to school in the morning, walk the dog, tidy bedrooms and kitchen, manage afterschool and doctor's appointments, cook dinner, assist with homework, and manage bathing. Over the years I’ve assisted with potty training, meal planning, and grocery shopping, managed remote learning in 2020, and planned enriching summer activities both in the city and in Connecticut where the family has a second home. After over a decade in childcare, I can confidently say there isn’t much I don’t have experience with!
One of my strongest beliefs in childcare is to be extremely understanding in dealing with children’s emotions. Kids are very rarely “bad”; there is almost always an underlying emotion that drives any undesirable behavior. Finding out what that may be and helping kids develop tools to manage their emotions is one of my greatest strengths! I love yoga, being outside, and pets!
