About me

Hiyah! My Name is Jade Mckoy. The Kiddos Usually call me “Ms.J”. I was born and raised in Brooklyn New York, in a Caribbean American Culture. I am the oldest of four daughters so, I have always been loving and caring and have had the responsibility of looking out for my younger siblings. I have practically helped raise each of them. I have always wanted to be a business owner like my father and went to college for Business. I graduated from The College Of Saint Rose with a Bachelors in Business Marketing. Since graduating I have been in constant pursuit of making my dreams a reality. Bettering My mental and physical health, and happiness, and trying to make the World a better place. I believe in order to provide the best care possible you need to pour from a cup that is full by first taking care of and loving yourself. In the future, I hope to have my own educational and recreational establishments for kids of all ages and backgrounds. I want to help provide opportunities to those who are less fortunate and help bridge the gap between English as a second language children and their families.

I have worked with Children Professionally for about 8 Years from ages 1-21. I am CPR, AED, and First Aid certified. I work at a Private Daycare where I Care for children ages 1 - 5. I create engaging, enriching, and educational activities. Provide a nurturing and Stimulating environment. As well as Promoted positive behavior and ensured a safe environment. I Nurtured positive relationships with parents and children and Curated dance routines and stretching regimens, along with changing diapers, Feeding, assessing, and promoting development and milestones. Along with Napping, Potty Training, teaching ABCs, 123s, Colors, shapes, Numbers, etc.… here we also start recognizing and learning how to spell their names with them and reading. We have also done nature walks, Park play, Water Play Days, and arts and crafts. We also made it very important that the children understood things that were happening in the world, history, and holidays. Children being able to be self-sufficient and problem-solving are also key things I pay attention to starting with everyday tasks like being able to put on their shoes and a coat by themselves to how to clean up a specific mess that they might make.
As A guest teacher, I work with children ages 5- 18. I Manage Classroom Behavior. Homework help, Follow and create, Lesson Plans and adapt to changing personalities'.
As a Youth Development Professional I Managed ages 5-11 and Conducted after-school programs to guide students toward the best versions of themselves and create safe spaces and homework help. I Held indoor and outdoor activities play, arts and crafts, and conflict resolution activities. Created and carried out lesson plans to help our students realize their full potential to become caring, responsible, and productive citizens. Here I also rode the bus with select students to drop them off at their homes. One of the biggest missions of the afterschool program that was a part of this club was to give students another outlet to do something productive after school.
When I worked for a summer camp I Assisted the dance instructors with children ages 5-10. Co-choreographed dances for grand performances, Assisted with daily tasks including but not limited to stretches, warm-ups, choreography, and maintaining order. We introduced various cultures and places from all over the world. At the end of the program, we held a big showcase, highlighting each culture introduced and sharing it with other summer programs and parents.
In each setting emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development of each child was paid attention to and assessed. I am very familiar with the reality that each child is different and in order to care for them to the best ability, healthy relationships and connections would have to be formed to tailor each person's experience. In each setting, I have also had to Maintain a clean and organized environment and have had to assist with snack and meal preparation.

I love to be outdoors in almost any kind of weather. That is one of my favorite things about New York, is the fact that we have four seasons, and there are different things that you can do in each. I'm up for any and all adventures whether that’s making snow angels, having a snowball fight, Apple picking, building Sandcastles, or simply blowing dandelions. I spend any free time I have with the people I love, traveling, and going to concerts or fitness classes. I am super family-oriented, organized, motivated, patient, compassionate, and have leadership experience, I am always punctual and have a sublime work ethic. I also love to sing and dance and explore new things whether that's a new activity, place, or food. I think that life is all about experiences and adding to your quality of life overall. I also believe this, not only for my own life but for the children I work with as well to explore and try new things safely and also at a pace that each child is comfortable with. I love introducing our youth to new things and different avenues of self-expression and discovery. I like working in child care because I like being a part of our children's development and making an impact on our new generations as they come. I feel like the more we nurture and take care and put in time with how we care for our youth, we overall can make the world a better place, a safer place, and a more loving place. I think that if it was more understood that the adults that we get in this world depend on how we raise our children a lot more people would pay attention to their needs, and be more intentional with each interaction. Being intentional with the interactions that I have with children first and foremost, starts with the way that I communicate with them as well as modeling the kind of behavior that I would like to see from them. For example, if I would like a child to say please and thank you when they need something then I would make sure I’m saying please and thank you when I interact with them asking something of them. Leading by example. I do not believe in yelling or “timeouts” and if necessary every situation requires a different consequence and cannot be treated the same. All kids test boundaries and I will leave once you stand on whatever those are, that everything will work out for the better. Along with maintaining safe boundaries, I think that children should be allowed to have a choice for example helping pick out their clothes or having a say in what they want to eat. I know that of course I would be the person in charge, but I want to feel like a team, not only with the parents, but with the child as well. I always want them to feel seen, heard, and respected. “A person’s a person, no matter how small.”- Dr. Seuss.
