About me

Hi families! I am Lo Cuevas. She/her pronouns are good to use when referring to me. I was born in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas to a multicultural family. My father is from the Philippines, and my mom is American. Growing up I loved performance art, I was the kid on the tables singing, dancing, and always trying to capture the attention of the adults in the room. I still love the arts, and am a musician, actor, photographer, dancer, and guitarist. I went to Sarah Lawrence College, a liberal arts college, for undergraduate schooling. Here I was able to study dance, psychology, and neuroscience. My final paper studied the prefrontal asymmetry presented in people with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder during the late luteal phase. This body of research led me to Philadelphia, where I received my Master's of Education in Human Sexuality from Widener University in Chester, PA. Here I was formally trained in culturally responsive teaching and trauma-informed facilitation. My research focused on indigenous teachings in the classroom, and how to create safe educational practices inside the American schooling system that is inherently historically violent. I have worked with children for 8 years now in a variety of settings: child care, tutoring, public school teaching, and au pair work. The ages I have experience with ranging from 9 months to 18 years old. I worked with Sophie, a 9-month-old for about a month, I changed her diapers, and we engaged in stimulated play through reading, sounds, and music. I also fed her and held her often. Most of my childcare experience has been with children on the Autism spectrum, or who have ADHD. I was a Learning Support teacher at a Philadelphia charter school in 2021, here I pulled out and supported students who needed accommodations due to their emotional and/or learning abilities. My favorite age to work with is 6-8 years old, I currently work with a multilingual family, whom I speak Spanish with. I love languages and can communicate basic needs in Spanish with children 6 years and older. I am infant to adult CPR and First-Aid Certified, and I really enjoy being expressive with children and connecting to their passion through art.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Activities and skills I love to teach and share with children are improvisation exercises. I love doing improv with children because it stimulates creativity, fast decision-making, and fun!
