About me

Originally from Kansas, I moved to NYC in 2010 to attend NYU Tisch School of the Arts graduating in 2014 with a BFA in drama. Alongside babysitting, I have been working as a performance artist and as an actor primarily in experimental theater productions. I have written and performed 15 pieces of original work at 8 different theater venues in NYC examining current social issues ranging from gender parity to loneliness, fostering open conversation, and encouraging communal stories and experiences. I have learned from my time babysitting that playing and storytelling are deeply important in getting on the same level as, and earning the trust of, the children I work with.

I have over 9 years of experience as a part-time nanny and am skilled at coordinating scheduling with many different families with entirely different needs each week. Ages range typically from 6 months to 13 years old with a special soft spot for toddlers and elementary school-aged children who love to play games and tell stories. I am experienced with all age ranges and the typical care each child may require, such as diaper changing, warming milk, cooking dinners, driving family cars or my own vehicle, keeping the family's schedule, light cleaning, soothing child's emotional outbursts, resolving sibling conflicts, homework, putting infants and toddlers down for bedtime, etc.

My performance work and theater training have taught me how to practice active listening, to others and to my own body. It’s taught me ways to release negative energy and the power of breath and laughter. My babysitting work has shown me the importance of my words. How to protect a child and make them feel safe. How to make them feel listened to and seen as humans with their own individual identities and feelings that are separate from their families. How to encourage creativity in kids and to utilize that creativity as a means of communicating as well as a means of healing.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

I have an interest in becoming a play therapist or intimacy coordinator specializing in working with children. I was accepted to Fordham’s Graduate School Of Social Service to pursue a master's degree with the intent to further my education regarding children and how best to understand their needs. However, I decided not to attend to focus more on my art. But, 5 years is a long time, maybe I'll re-apply, I am interested to see where life takes me.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

The main thing I do with children is co-create and encourage imaginative play. I have a family with an eight and eleven-year-old where each time I come over they have already storyboarded the next chapter to this elaborate stage production we always put on in their living room with accents and character names that go for hours until bedtime. With another family their toddler and I drive in race cars made out of couch cushions to Fire Island to get invisible ice creams. Whatever the age range, typically where I excel is engaging a child's creativity and enthusiasm for play.
