About me

Hi! My name is Maite, but you can call me Mai. I am originally from Brazil, but I moved to the United States in 2017 and have been living in New York since then. My love for children started many years ago when I volunteered as a teaching assistant at a dance studio, teaching ballet to children, and since then, I have been looking for opportunities to work with them.

I worked as an Au Pair for a family in Westchester County for two years. I worked 45 hours a week and cared for a newborn and a 2-year-old boy. I was responsible for their meals, laundry, and organizing bedrooms and playroom. I drove them to school, playdates, activities, and special outings like museums, zoos, and aquarium visits. I would occasionally take them to doctor appointments and run errands like grocery shopping. Following that experience, I worked for a year in a preschool, mostly with toddlers from 2 to 5 years old. I was a teacher's assistant and responsible for their well-being and planning age-appropriate activities.
In the following years, I had different nanny positions that were either live-in full-time positions or, live-out part-time. These experiences were important because I got to work with children of various ages, ranging from babies to pre-teens. My primary responsibilities were childcare-related (e.g., kids' laundry, meal prep, playing, driving, helping with homework), as well as night routines (i.e., bath time, reading books, brushing teeth, etc.). I occasionally did overnight for families when parents traveled, and I also traveled with them when they needed support during vacation.

My main goal as a nanny is to be someone the children can trust and feel safe with. I love working with kids of all ages and am always excited to learn more about them. My main interests are child development and socio-emotional development, so I find extreme value in providing children with the structure and support they need to thrive.
