About me

I am a theater director and writer with many years of experience as a babysitter, camp counselor and teaching artist. Since graduating with an M.F.A. from Brooklyn College in 2012, I have been seeking a position that is challenging and ever-changing, which requires imagination and will keep me on my toes. I find working with kids to be ideal.

As a teacher for Audra Rox Musical Theater, my classes cultivated literacy, social skills, communication, creativity, self-expression and self-esteem through creative play, drama, music and storytelling. I helped students act out their favorite stories through music and drama and we performed them for their families. I have also taught 2nd grade Sunday school where I built a curriculum to teach positive values in a fun way, through interactive games, performances and collaborative art projects.

I encourage curiosity, collaboration, positive expression, exploration, discovery and fun while maintaining a safe, structured environment. I lead by example and model respectful behavior and a positive, responsible attitude. I believe that mutual respect is crucial, and I always learn as much from working with kids as I hope they are learning form me. I admire their courage and curiosity, and am always inspired by their fresh perspectives and insights. I write fiction for and about children, and enjoy telling and hearing stories. I think storytelling is an important method of making sense of the world, as is cultivating communication skills and community.

Since I was a young teenager, I have been babysitting children of all ages, from infants to pre- teens. I have enjoyed many activities with the children I babysat, from creating scavenger hunts, performances and writing music together to ice-skating and learning to surf! Along with directing theatre and writing fiction, I enjoy animals, vegetarian cooking, playing guitar, jogging in Prospect Park, reading, traveling to new places, and volunteering on public art projects. I am always striving to learn more about childcare and education, through literature on the subject and sitting in on classes and visiting after-school sites.
