About me

I am a mother of 2 amazing adults, Laura, and Paulo. I came to America to experience the American Dream, and here I am, 6 years later!

I have a business degree from my country (4 years in college), and lots of experience being a secretary, English teacher, purchasing agent, and purchasing analyst. Here in the U.S., I decided to challenge myself in the health field. As I could not get into a nursing program without any previous knowledge in the area, I was advised to study Medical Assisting to get the basics requested, so I graduated from ASA College in 2020. I am CPR and first aid certified.

In 2018 and 2019 I had several short-term jobs, as I was not available to take long-term jobs. My second experience (the first was with my own kids and nephews) with kids was when I became a babysitter for two siblings aged 3 years and 11 months. Their parents worked in the evenings, so I stayed with the boys until around 11 pm or 12 am. I worked 20 hours/week for around 4 months. I used to prepare meals and feed them, change diapers, do the laundry, shower them, take them to the playground, engage them in activities with their own toys, etc. It was during that time that I started learning songs for kids. I still had other 4 short-term jobs as a babysitter before COVID. One child was 2 months-old. It was a very special experience working with a couple taking care of a baby girl. I used to babysit her for 4 hours, 3 X a week so that one of the parents could work at the home office. My job was changing diapers, feeding her with bottles, and taking her to the playground. He was about 10 months old when I first met him. He was, then, the first kid of a very young couple. My tasks were like the other jobs, and I used to meet him twice a week, so his mom could run errands.

Besides being a babysitter, I have also performed other different tasks. I worked for a coffee shop as a manager for 10 months, and I also worked at home instead as a caregiver for 5 months. After a while, when COVID-19 had isolated everyone inside their houses, Instacart hired me, and my job was doing grocery shopping and delivering it to the customer's address. I also used to be an Uber driver in Long Island. So, this is a summary of my first professional years in the U.S., and I am happy to have had those opportunities because I could understand that having a job is more than just “making some money”. One must be happy with the previously settled rules (although those rules may still be renegotiated), otherwise one will not stay longer in any job. I can tell if a job will fit me or not.

After the covid pandemic - when people started coming back to work, my previous boss, called me back to work with her. I used to babysit her first baby (he was 9 months at that time) whenever the couple needed a break for a celebration with friends - but then, when she called me again, she had a newborn boy, and I became his nanny. And this has been my job since January 2022. He was 2 months then, and now he is 28 months. His oldest brother will be 5 in May. Today I can sing a song for any occasion, be it to brush their teeth, clean up the toys, take a shower, count numbers, etc. Have I mentioned I took Lars twice to the beach last summer by subway? Only me and him. What a priceless experience! I am very grateful for the trust his parents have put in me.

In my free time, I like to go to the YMCA, where I have a membership. I usually go once a week to swim!
