About me

Hi Smart Sitting families! My name is Sharline Benjamin. I've been a nanny for around 25 years. I grew up on the beautiful island of Grenada and came to Brooklyn, NY at the age of 12 to join my mom.

As the oldest of my siblings, caregiving has always been a part of my day-to-day life. Growing up, I was always left in charge to take on additional responsibilities with my siblings, so if you’ve got multiples, I’ve got you!

My first nanny position was with twin boys. They were 8 months old when I met the mom while I worked at a yoga gym that had child care for the family. The mom would always call to see if I'm at work before coming and, one day, I asked her why she only came when I was there and she said, “You're the only person that can keep them quiet!”, and she offered me a nanny position with her! I took care of such duties as diaper changes, meal times, and teaching them things like clapping, crawling, and rolling over.

In the time since, I have worked with children as young as newborns, and as old as 15. I was a nanny for an 11 year old boy for four years, and it was one of the best experiences I’ve had as a childcare professional. We’d play soccer in the hallways of his building and go to the park together. He’s an adult now, but he still gives me a hug whenever he sees me!

As a mom myself, people have questioned why I continued to work with kids when I have my own. However, I love working with children and wouldn't think about changing my profession for anything. Taking care of children is my calling, and it is what keeps me going! When I take on the role of a nanny, I see it more as being a third parent – I am with the kids for a long time, and I am tasked with not only keeping them safe, but helping them become better human beings, assisting them in their personal growth. It’s an incredibly important job and I don’t take it for granted!

I look forward to meeting you and your family!

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

Being a nanny I try to encourage curiosity and creativity through play. I love to plan outings, games, arts & crafts. Trips to the library and walks to the park. I believe in encouraging reading from infancy to adulthood. Reading to babies and keeping them actively engaged through play or other activities is one of my top priorities as a nanny.
