About me

I grew up the oldest of 3 kids in Apple Valley, Minnesota. My favorite memories growing up included meeting family in Sweden, Germany, Eritrea, and other amazing places. I am lucky to have parents that prioritized becoming a global citizen! I've chosen to settle down in Brooklyn and one day dream of raising kids of my own here :)

My younger brothers have autism and I was one of their caretakers growing up. This background helped me learn how to care for differently-abled kids. I applied that knowledge to my personal care assistant role in 2018. I worked specifically with families with autistic children (ages 8 to 15) and taught life skills to the kids. Due to my study schedule at university, I had to phase out 60-hour work weeks into something part-time. I began nannying (1 child, 6 months old) and gained valuable infant and toddler experience. My duties included preparing meals, light housekeeping, packing the diaper bag, and spending the day with the baby. This family referred me to another family with twins (2 years old) that needed on-call support. Later on in the year, they asked me to join their childcare team as a nanny and family assistant. My duties included keeping the twins active and entertained, balancing their respective interests, and maintaining a clean Montessori-style living room. After the twins went to sleep I would assist in housekeeping and researched fun activities inside and outside of their home. I also provided childcare on a two-week trip. My duties included packing, keeping them entertained in the car, and childproofing where we stayed. I occasionally drove them to and from their parent’s worksite.

My philosophy is self-esteem is one of the most important traits I can help foster in kids. It's why I enjoy learning family cadences and building on existing routine. I find it instills confidence in kids when they know what to expect! It also helps me to prepare for transition times, plan fun activities, and use my time effectively to complete housework. I love going outside, running around, and involving the kids in age-appropriate decision-making as much as possible!
