About me

Hello families! MY name is Autumn Manes and I am from Long Island, NY! I recently moved to NYC last August and have been working as an Elementary School Teacher for the last 2 years. I have decided to transition into career nannying and am looking to join an amazing family like yours! I have had a love and passion for working with kids for as long as I can remember and know I have found my true purpose in childcare.

I have been in childcare in many different capacities since I was 15 years old. My first job was working at a local YMCA camp for 6 summers as a camp counselor and then promoted to a Theatre Specialist. I choreographed, directed, and musically directed The Little Mermaid for children ages 5-14 - this summer will always hold a special place in my heart as I got the chance to combine my passions for music and childcare. I continue to bring these joys of sharing and learning through music into the next years of my childcare experience with time doing shorter term works with families throughout college. I had the privilege of working alongside 3 beautiful families throughout my college career and spent time with each of them completing tasks such as running errands and pickups/drop-offs, light housekeeping, meal preparation for all ages (including baby-led weaning), and supporting language development and acquisition for our babies with special needs or delays. I found myself having the privilege of helping a family through the transition of adding a new addition to their family! I have experience with newborns and implementing daily practices to track and hit milestones in those critical periods of life. After graduating college, I began my journey in education. I have been a 4th Grade homeroom solo teacher as well as a science teacher for grades K-4! I teach classes in classroom as well as support transitions, arrival, and dismissal. For example, I walk up to 30 scholars at a time to their buses (a few blocks) each day - can't get any more NYC than that! I have found that the institutional confines of the education system did not fit the philosophies I hold so dearly regarding childcare, so here is where I find you! CPR Certified, experience with children with special needs and medical issues, and Emergency experience.

Outside of my professional life you can find me spending time with my partner Emerson, my amazing family, and baby niece, Shea! I love to read and be outside with nature (which can be hard to find here but it makes for a true adventure) and I am currently learning how to improve my cooking. My philosophies on childcare are a combination of so many wonderful new practices such as Montessori and culturally responsive teaching, but the core of these beliefs are rooted in my goal of instilling independence and confidence in young people. Learning to make mistakes and emotional regulation is not something a child can provide themselves on their own, it is our job as their caretaker to guide and encourage them during these critical periods. I am here to follow your lead and will be sure to keep regular and open communication about our experiences together and where your child is in their development.

We will be a team working towards one goal - the joy and thriving of your children.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

With a family that I can grow alongside providing them with the fullest extent of my experience (childcare, tutoring, music)!

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

The joys of music, being outside and exploring nature, and how to accept making a mistake! These come to mind when thinking of what will make a long lasting impact on children's development.
