About me
I grew up in a small town in Vermont, and I’m the older sister to one brother. My mother is an artist and my father is a musician, so I've done every kind of craft and grew up listening to a lot of music. As an adolescent and teen, I was passionate about creativity in any way, but mainly dance, theater, photography, and film. I graduated from Emerson College in 2019 with a BA in Visual Media Arts Production and quickly moved to New York to pursue that field. I reconnected with my babysitting roots in 2020, found my calling in childcare, and haven’t looked back since!
I’ve been working with children since I got my “babysitting certificate” in 6th grade. I worked consistently as a date night and weekend babysitter for families in my town from then until college. These jobs often involved making dinner for the kids, bedtime routines, and being outside as much as possible! My first job out of college was as a Teaching and Resident Assistant for a performing arts summer camp for high school students. I supervised morning and nightly medications for students, handled roommate disagreements, and traveled with 20+ teenagers at a time on the NYC MTA. I’ve worked with many ages, ranging from 6 months to 18 years old. In the last family I worked with I was a part-time nanny for one girl, from 6 to 8 years old. Responsibilities included after-school pickup, homework help, making dinner, and being a support system/friend for her. I currently work in backup care, which means I am in a different household every day, learning new family routines, and getting to know new kids constantly. I have completed the Red Cross courses on Adult, Child, and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED, Advanced Child Care Training, and Water Safety for Parents and Caregivers.
My motto when it comes to childcare is “let kids do dangerous things carefully.” I want to let them explore the world on their terms, but I will always be right there if they need me. Working with kids is so exciting because they're in a constant state of learning, and it is wonderful to be a part of their growth process. I like to get to know each kid as an individual and incorporate their passions into our day to day. The last child I worked with absolutely adores dogs and every time she saw one she would want to pet it. We worked together on using our voice to ask the owner if we could pet the dog, starting with me asking, and working up to her being able to ask by herself! To me, teaching kids to speak up for themselves and using words to communicate is incredibly important at any age, whether it is speaking in full sentences to a toddler or teaching an adolescent a way to express their feelings.
