About me

Hi, my name is Erika! New York has been home my whole life. I have two brothers and two sisters. Growing up we spent a lot of time outdoors; playing, exploring, and doing sports. My youngest brother and sister are over 12 years younger than me so I helped care for them when they were little. I graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh and received my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood/Childhood Education and my Master’s degree in Special Education. I hold 4 teaching certificates. After graduating, I became a public school teacher in Manhattan. I have been teaching third grade for the past 5 years.

I have worked with children for the past 12 years in a variety of settings. In high school, I was a counselor at a day camp for 2 summers. In college, I was a group leader at sleep away camp for 4 summers. In college, I completed my field experience in classrooms and after-school programs. I also started babysitting and tutoring part-time. The summer before my first year teaching, I was a summer nanny for a 1-year-old and a 7-year-old. Currently, after school and on the weekends, I babysit for families around the city with children of all ages. I have been in many different homes and have enjoyed working both occasionally and regularly with families. Every Sunday for the past two and a half years, I have worked for the same family. Their two girls are now 2 and 5 years old. Together we frequented parks and museums. I also took them to play dates and birthday parties. I facilitated different games and activities in the home. I also handled nap time, dinner, bath time, and bedtime routines. I look forward to transitioning from classroom teaching and part-time babysitting to full-time nannying.

I strongly believe in empowering children by giving them the tools and support to become independent. My goal is to foster a safe, positive, loving, and structured environment for children to grow and flourish. Patience and gentleness are at the core of all my interactions with children. I believe I play an important part in helping the children I work with become the best versions of themselves.
