About me

Growing up in a school with a great music program opened my eyes, even at a relatively young age, to the profound effect strong role models can have. My role model was my choir teacher, and his love for connecting with students was passed onto me as I continued my studies into college. I believe that the first step to gaining any kind of relationship with a child is to respect them as individual people. Of course it is a nanny's responsibility to guide and help shape their minds, but I never felt when I was in school that I was being undermined or belittled.

I have employed this philosophy in many different settings, from large classrooms to one-on-one lessons. Gaining respect from a large classroom presents its own challenges that differ from individual instruction, but in some ways it is easier to stand at the front of a class and lead students through a lesson. Private lessons have exposed me to children, ages five to eighteen, along with all of their unique characteristics and idiosyncrasies. These private lessons helped me form the strongest bonds with kids.

Going to school for Music Education of course means that I love music. It is my passion! What I love about it, though, is what it brings out in people: their emotions, their personalities, and their potential. Getting a child to break out of their shell and sing in public for the first time is incredibly rewarding, as is seeing them grow over a period of time. Music also provides essential skills like communication, coordination, expression, and even math (counting in difficult time signatures is no joke!).

I see myself as a person who becomes very invested in other people. I am happily married, and have a lot of love to give to those I interact with. I am sensitive to others, almost to a fault. But with this sensitivity comes a strong sense of commitment and dedication that I cannot ignore. Using my skills to make a lasting impact on others is ultimately the most rewarding.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Graduated with my Masters in Choral Conducting, hopefully at a high school with a great music program, or a university! Then I can pass the same inspiration I felt from teachers when I was younger onto my students.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am an avid fan of all things music, and can teach many different instruments. Let me know if your children need extra help with any of their scales! I myself am a singer and also play piano, saxophone, guitar, and can teach those instruments as well as instruments in their families (bass, clarinet, etc.). I also am very into fitness. Growing up a little overweight (that's an understatement) taught me how to take care of myself through hard work and the right mindset. I will, however, never say no to that occasional milkshake.
