About me
I grew up in a fairly big township in Central Jersey, right between the big cities of Philadelphia and NYC. Though I attended the same charter school from 5th grade until 12th grade with a graduating class of only 60 people, I’ve always been among the most extroverted people in a room! I’ve played the violin for as long as I can remember and have tried about every team sport offered. I can most often be found at my local library not just reading, but also checking out their events calendar!
I first became interested in childcare in high school when I began volunteering at a local after school program with elementary aged students. Those months spent as an aide peaked my interest and sparked a love for childcare that grew, as I began taking on occasional babysitting jobs. One of the first families I ever worked with, and who I’m still in contact with today, really solidified my want to stay within the child care industry as I was able to grow with their youngest child from a couple of months old to a now wonderful girl in kindergarten. While the position began just as care during the weekends and some weeknights, with that family I was also given the opportunity to grow and experience providing overnight care on my own and traveling with them on several away trips.
My last two Nanny jobs have really cemented my nanny style & reaffirmed my commitment to this career. They both have lasted under two years, but I wish they’d lasted longer! They’ve given me experience of working with multiple children in different age ranges at once, from the beginning of the toddler stage all the way to pre-teens. I’ve also gained experience working with children who are neurodivergent through these last two positions, and they were experiences I greatly value.
I’ve been the audience for many topics ranging from detailed retellings of Thomas the Train episodes the history of Pokemon to how intense a Minecraft online game battle can be. Played hundreds of intense Candyland games, saying nothing of how loud Uno can become. I’ve helped young children gain an appreciation for independent play as well as taken dozens of different roles in imaginative play. Been very devoted local library patrons when it comes to story time and other events. When it comes to academic learning every child is different and I can confidently say I was there to offer support in different ways as I worked with the kids & parents to meet individual goals.
My personal nannying style is very hands-on and active! I take a lot of my cues from the children while maintaining a routine and ensuring that our boundaries as caregiver and child are maintained. On the job I’m very engaged with the current interests the children have and try my best to incorporate it into their lives so that they feel seen and heard. One of the best things about working with children is being able to share your passions and interests. I love music, reading and enjoy spending time outside so being able to see those interests be picked up brings a spark of joy. Sharing those interests has also led to positive results for me personally because I feel children, bond easier with the caregiver when they’re given the information and tools to begin forming their opinions about them without it being based solely on knowing a new adult is coming in to care for them.
I value a clear line of communication with the parental unit because I truly believe that having that communication leads to an even better bond with the child. My goal in child care is to help aid in raising a well rounded, kind, and compassionate individual.
