About me

Hello, Smart Sitting families! My name is Rita. I grew up in Brazil, and I am the youngest of 4 siblings. In college, I studied Early Childhood Education. Before college, I used to babysit my nephews, which helped me decide what I want to with my life: take care of children! I did an internship in a daycare, working with infants, and as an assistant English teacher, working with children between 3 and 4 years old.

As a professional nanny, I have worked with kids for about 20 years, ranging from newborns through 7 years old. I'm also a Certified Newborn Care Specialist!

Some of my past responsibilities have included: helping babies, toddlers and children meet their developmental milestones by using educational tools (such as color wooden sticks, building blocks, books, and more). I introduce activities that explore their creativity and imagination. I also establish routines for meal time, naps, socialization, baths, and reading. I help them to adjust through changes at school. I've even taught kids Portuguese! I love teaching children social manners; maintaining open communication with and assisting the parents as needed; as well as cooking, dressing, and changing diapers; introducing solids to baby; practicing tummy time and potty training. Yes, I do all of that and more!

As the kids grow older, my role has changed over time. I have sleep over for overnights, brought them to extracurricular activities, and participated in their art class as an assistant. I also love to organize the kid’s toys and games, and even travel internationally with my family.

When I’m not working, I love to be with my family and friends, and I really love to visit nature, parks, beaches, mountains, botanic gardens, museums, zoos, theaters, go to movie theaters, reading, bookstores, and travel.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I love teach the based on the values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility. Encouraging healthy development, practice tummy time, place the toys nearby so the baby can move and reach for them. I encourage the toddler to build a tower of four or more blocks. I also encourage the benefits of art by have kids use paint, crayons, playdough, stickers, scissors (good for learning dexterity!) climbing up, climbing down and more.
