About me

Hi families! My name is Nina. I am a 22-year-old who was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. I grew up with my little brother and a lot of dogs and cats. I have always loved talking to people and exploring new places. Additionally, I love everything art and entertainment related. This led me to my recent degree from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. Since graduating, I have been writing for a small magazine in Eugene, Oregon and continuing to provide childcare for my wonderful nanny family. I will be very sad to leave the kids as I relocate to NYC, but I am looking forward to the next adventure.

I have always loved taking care of kids. As soon as I was old enough, I became the neighborhood babysitter and have continued to work with children ever since. I have been involved in childcare for seven years. This ranges from being a Summer Camp Counselor with kids aged 6-12 to being a full-time nanny for various families with kids aged 0-5 years old. I have changed diapers, warmed breast milk bottles, planned outdoor activities, engaged kids in creative play, meal prepped, done housework, organized daily schedules, aided in conflict resolution — you name it. I am well versed and extremely comfortable caring for children of all ages. I have experience working with special needs, and I am conversational in Spanish. Additionally, I am CPR and First Aid Certified.

Getting to be a part of the wonderful support group it takes to raise a child is what makes this work rewarding. I love the genuine, honest relationships that I am able to build with the children and families I work with. I strive to be a positive role model for the children I care for while simultaneously incorporating the desired parenting styles of the families I work with. I tend to lean towards the style of gentle and communicative parenting, while also placing a heavy emphasis upon boundaries. I believe that children are individuals, and that as caregivers it is our job to respectfully and patiently support their needs. Witnessing a child's personal growth and helping to ease the responsibilities of busy parents is when I feel most successful in this job.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

Continuing to grow and learn about my passions in life. I strongly believe that the best way to live life is in the present, so I try not to worry too much about the future. I would love to be working as a Writer and helping to tell peoples stories in five years. Who knows — maybe I can find a fun crossover between childcare and writing.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I love to spend time outdoors with kids. Taking long walks, going to the park, etc. Museums, zoos and aquariums are also fun ways to spend the day. I love reading and doing arts and crafts with the children I nanny. I also love to play dress-up and do creative play with dolls or toys. Additionally, I grew up taking dancing, singing and acting classes, so I love all things performance art related. Anything that keeps a child engaged and excited is a win in my book.
