About me
I am the mother of two adult children, ages 25 and 27. I loved being home with them when they were under the age of three. Nurturing them in these crucial early years was one of the most special periods of my adult life.
I was lucky enough to grow up in New York City, surrounded by the arts. My father was a pianist, my mother sang opera, and I was given ballet, flute, and piano lessons as a child. As an only child, I had to entertain myself and the books my dad brought home from his job at the Queensboro Public Library kept me occupied for hours on end. To this day, my favorite activity is curling up with a great book.
I spent many years babysitting for children of all ages when I was growing up, then did my senior year community service in the preschool of The Walden School. I have a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Brooklyn College, CUNY, as well as one in English Literature, from City College, CUNY, and taught young children, ages two through four at Plymouth Church School, in Brooklyn Heights, for 13 years. I also worked as a substitute teacher in the pre- and lower school at Brooklyn Friends School, with children ages three through ten. In addition, I ran my own tutoring service, ABC: The Art of Basic Communication, where I supported children, ages five through high school, in reading and writing.
I spent the last year of the pandemic working as a Writing Support Instructor at Key Collegiate Charter School, where I was able to share my experience as a writer with students in sixth through eighth grade. One of my favorite activities is sharing my love of the written word with children of all ages.
I love connecting with babies and young children because at these early stages, they are full of wonder and joy. I love singing, reading, writing, and crafting with the little ones. Of course, the greatest joy of working with babies and young children is seeing them smile and laugh.
