About me

I was born and raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. As a child I was lucky enough to call Central Park my backyard and spent most of my days delaying the walk home from school through the park to stop and explore whatever I could. I left the city for boarding school and eventually attended college abroad in Scotland, at the University of Edinburgh. After graduating I decided I was interested in education, especially education that happened outside classrooms. I spent time traveling in South America pursuing my love for all things outdoors. I took a series of jobs in tourism and later in outdoor education across the American West - sea kayaking and glacier guiding in Alaska, teaching middle schoolers about marine ecosystems in Washington, blending middle school earth science curriculum into hiking in National Parks in California and then returned east to build boats at a semester school in Maine.

In between I returned to New York City and often worked for period of time (sometimes as long as 2 years) as a nanny or sitter. I've worked as a full-time, part-time, live-in and live-out nanny for children as young as 2 and as old as sixteen in New York City, the Hamptons, Chicago and the Berkshires. In various positions I've been responsible for all childcare duties, morning routine and school runs, running household errands, light housekeeping and laundry, meal prep, shuttling to and coordinating after-school activities, homework help and tutoring and bath time and bedtime routines. During the 2020/2021 school year I created and led a pandemic learning pod of four 2nd grade girls. I was responsible for overseeing their online schooling, ensuring they were meeting academic milestones, providing additional academic enrichment and communicating with their online teachers. I had my own classroom space and developed additional curriculum to supplement their online schooling - growing our own rooftop garden, field trips throughout the NYC boroughs, frequent museum trips, a women in history project and a project on local flora and fauna of the city.
