About me
I was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana (a Notre Dame fan since my dad works at the University) and loved growing up in a Midwest, college town. I am the youngest of five kids and although the youngest usually is known as the "babied" one of the family, I have always been referred to as the "old soul" and "wise beyond my years." This might have contributed to why I was always eager to watch kids for as long as I can remember. I got the opportunity at age 11 to start work as a mother's helper which I happily did. From there, I went on to babysit for multiple families in my hometown throughout high school and took my love for working with children to college.
I went to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska where I studied Psychology and Healthy Lifestyle Management with the intention to use my psychology education in a career focused on child development. Because of this, I had an internship working at a behavioral daycare center with kids who had Autism Spectrum Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD, or other behavioral disorders. It was a really great and eye-opening experience for me and I learned a lot about children's developmental stages. I also continued to babysit or do after-school care jobs for families I found in the area.
Post-graduation, I deviated from the child development path and pursued a career in Healthy Lifestyle Management - my other major. This led me to earn a yoga instructor certification and a nutrition coaching certification. My main source of income thus far has come from those two things, but I never stopped babysitting and nannying while pursuing those careers. I actually was blessed to live with my sister and her family for my first year out of college. She at the time had three going on four boys, and living with kids ages 5, 3, and 1 taught me so much about raising kids. I also lived with kids as a nanny for six months here in New York City.
Currently, I would love to find a family in need of a full-time nanny/family assistant to help make their day-to-day lives run more smoothly. Huge bonus if the family is active, values healthy eating, and is open to me cooking meals.
I have professional child care experience with...
- Infants
- Toddlers
- Preschoolers
- School-aged (K-5)
- Preteen
In 5 years, I hope to be...
using my background in nutrition and experience with kids to run some sort of healthy eating program. Or to be more involved in the culinary world.
Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...
I love to cook/bake with children, teaching them about eating healthy foods and what each food specifically does for our bodies. I do emphasize the importance though of treats and never deem a particular food as "bad" for you. There is room for everything in a balanced/healthy diet.
