About me

I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee with two older brothers and loving, creative, parents. As a kid, I loved sports, theatre, drawing, and sewing. My father grew up on a tour bus with musical parents and loved taking our family on long road trips. I came to New York for the first time when I was nine, and nine years later I was living in Chelsea pursuing my BFA at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I have supported myself here for the past seven years designing at brands and coordinating production for televised sports, but my first, longest, and most consistent job has been as a babysitter for families all over the city.
Through high school, I babysat my cousins and neighbors, worked with special needs teens and adults, camp counseled, and was a caregiver for my grandmother who taught me to sew. In New York, I have part and full-time cared for over ten families with children from newborn and toddler to elementary and teenage. After-school sitting involved picking up the boys and girls (6-13), getting them around the city to sports, play dates, and home for homework and bedtime. As a full-time summer nanny to a three-year-old boy, responsibilities included meals, art class, sports, and park visits. I spent a summer au pairing in London and Saint Tropez for a family with two boys (8 & 13). On call 24/7, I cooked meals, tutored them in math, cleaned their rooms, and kept them busy. I took them snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking, and hiking.
My parents were extremely intentional in sparking creative energy in me as a child. Turning illustration from a two-dimensional idea to three-dimensional textiles and garments is a particular expression that brings me joy. While teaching sewing workshops to children I have felt how unique and unobstructed a child’s imagination is. Children bear intrinsic creativity with no inhibitions. They just need guidance and encouragement to find good outlets to express themselves. Incredible patience, love, and creativity are needed to support a child’s development and the future of our world. Through my travels and experiences, I have loved discovering and contributing to the cross-cultural truth that it takes a village to raise a child.

In 5 years, I hope to be...

In five years I hope to have my own business up and running. Hopefully, this will allow me to travel to interview and work with artisans around the world. I want to be using my TEFL certification to invest in communities by teaching English and using my creative skills to connect with people.

Activities & skills I love to teach & share with children...

I am a freelance clothing and textile designer. My grandmother taught me to sew when I was young and I love to pass that gift down to children. Children are so unreservedly creative and their imaginations spark incredible inspiration. Seeing kids express themselves through different art forms is one of the most beautiful things to experience. I love to hear about a child’s favorite movie characters and draw them. I am very active and like to teach sports to kids, especially basketball. I work well with kids who like walking and spending time outdoors.
